“Existencia doméstica” (Domestic Existence), Albert Riera’s solo exhibition in Madrid, transcended the conventional boundaries of painting. Co-curated by Juan Moreno and Pepe Baena Diví, the exhibition captured the artist’s multidisciplinary approach, showcasing not only his striking paintings but also his forays into drawing, ceramics, collage, and video. This diverse range of media allowed Riera Galcerán to engage with contemporary artistic vocabularies, prompting a dialogue about the very nature of exhibiting abstract art in the modern era.
The exhibition space itself became an integral part of the artwork. Riera Galcerán created a series of paintings and sculptures specifically designed to interact with the architecture, drawing inspiration from his residency at Palazzo Monti in Italy. By extending color and form beyond the confines of the canvas, he challenged traditional exhibition methods, blurring the lines between artwork and environment. “Existencia doméstica” offered a thought-provoking exploration of the interplay between art and space, solidifying Riera Galcerán’s position as an artist pushing the boundaries of contemporary artistic expression.
